Pool cage rescreening in Winter Springs

Winter Springs Rescreening rescreens pool cages, lanais and screen rooms in Winter Springs, Florida. The Seminole County Property Appraiser records 3,731 parcels inside the city carrying a screen enclosure, at a median build year of 1997. 87% of them went up before 2010 — past the 8-to-15-year service life published for Florida screen mesh.

3,731 Winter Springs parcels carrying a screen enclosure on the appraiser’s card. Another 2,380 carry a screen patio line item; 5,934 parcels have some screen feature.
1997 Median year those enclosures were built. Half the cages in this city are older than that.

The local argument

Winter Springs is, structurally, a rescreen town

Most screen companies in this market sell you a cage. In Winter Springs, most of the cages already exist — they were built in the boom that filled Tuscawilla, Oak Forest and the Highlands through the 1980s, and Winding Hollow, Seville Chase and Howell Creek Reserve through the 1990s. The county’s own assessment records carry 3,752 screen-enclosure line items across 3,731 city parcels, and the decade distribution is not subtle.

Winter Springs screen enclosures by decade built, from the Seminole County Property Appraiser’s CAMA extract (ExtraFeature.csv, file dated 29 August 2026). Winter Springs isolated by tax district, so these are city limits rather than ZIP 32708.

The housing stock says the same thing from the other direction. Of 16,020 housing units in the city, 4,810 were built in the 1980s and 3,415 in the 1990s, against 325 built in 2020 or later. Roughly seven in ten Winter Springs homes predate 2000.

That era of cage was built with plain steel self-tapping screws in aluminium extrusion. The failure you can see is torn mesh. The failure underneath is rust-jacked fasteners swelling the screw channel, and that is what decides whether your cage takes new spline cleanly or needs frame work first. It is also why a quote written for a Tuskawilla Crossings house built in 2020 is not a quote for a Tuscawilla house built in 1984.

What we do

Six jobs, and the honest boundary of them

Pool cage rescreening

Full mesh replacement on an existing frame. Old spline and mesh out, channels cleaned, new mesh rolled in panel by panel. The frame does not move, so nothing about the enclosure's footprint or setback changes.

Detail

Panel and storm-damage repair

One torn panel after a branch drop, or the eight panels on the screen-door side that the dog has been through. Priced per panel, matched to the mesh already on the cage.

Detail

Screen door repair and rebuild

The part of a Winter Springs cage that fails first. New rollers, closers, latches, kickplates, and full door rebuilds when the corner keys have gone.

Detail

Pet-resistant mesh

Vinyl-coated polyester in the lower course of panels where the animals actually are, standard mesh above. Costs a fraction of doing the whole cage in it.

Detail

No-see-um mesh

Tighter 20 x 20 weave for the north-side subdivisions closest to Lake Jesup, where biting midges get through ordinary screen.

Detail

Frame and fastener work

The 1980s and 1990s cages here were built with plain steel self-tapping screws. When those rust-jack the extrusion, new mesh alone will not hold. Uprights, beams, kickplate channel and super gutter.

Detail

We rescreen and repair. We do not build new enclosures or convert a lanai into a pool cage — that is structural aluminium work, it needs a City of Winter Springs permit, and it is a different trade.

The comparison nobody shows you

Three meshes, drawn to the same scale

Screen is sold by opening count — 18 x 14 means eighteen openings per inch one way and fourteen the other. Below, each mesh is drawn over an identical 0.4 inch patch, so the difference you see is the real difference in the weave.

18 x 14

Standard fiberglass

Drawn over a 0.4 in square of screen at the stated opening count. The blue dot is 1 mm to the same scale — an adult biting midge is smaller than that dot.

  • Mesh count18 x 14 openings per inch
  • Strand spacing1.41 mm x 1.81 mm centre to centre
  • MaterialPVC-coated fiberglass yarn
  • StopsLeaves, oak catkins, wasps, mosquitoes, lizards
  • Does not stopBiting midges (no-see-ums), and a determined dog
  • Market rate$0.75-$1.25 per sq ft installed
  • Service life8-15 years in Florida sun, per published Florida guidance

The default rescreen on most Winter Springs cages, and the right call on a pool cage away from the lake with no pets pushing on the lower panels.

20 x 20

No-see-um mesh

Drawn over a 0.4 in square of screen at the stated opening count. The blue dot is 1 mm to the same scale — an adult biting midge is smaller than that dot.

  • Mesh count20 x 20 openings per inch
  • Strand spacing1.27 mm x 1.27 mm centre to centre
  • MaterialFiner fiberglass yarn, tighter square weave
  • StopsEverything standard mesh stops, plus biting midges
  • Does not stopCuts airflow and daylight relative to 18 x 14
  • Market rate$1.00-$1.50 per sq ft installed
  • Service life

Worth the airflow penalty on the north side of the city, where Lake Jesup drives the midge pressure. Not worth it on every cage in Winter Springs, and anyone selling it that way is selling.

18 x 14, heavy yarn

Pet-resistant mesh

Drawn over a 0.4 in square of screen at the stated opening count. The blue dot is 1 mm to the same scale — an adult biting midge is smaller than that dot.

  • Mesh count18 x 14 openings per inch, heavier strand
  • Strand spacing1.41 mm x 1.81 mm centre to centre
  • MaterialVinyl-coated polyester yarn
  • StopsClaws and body weight on the lower panels
  • Does not stopNo-see-ums. Same opening count as standard mesh.
  • Market rate$1.50-$2.50 per sq ft installed
  • Service life

Usually the smart buy as a lower-panel-only upgrade: the bottom course of panels in pet-resistant, the rest of the cage in standard mesh.

What is drawn and what is not. The opening count and the 1 mm reference dot are to scale, and the centre-to-centre spacing figures are plain arithmetic on the mesh count (25.4 mm ÷ openings per inch). Strand diameter is drawn indicatively so the heavier pet-resistant yarn is visible; the clear opening left between strands is mesh count minus strand diameter, and that is a manufacturer figure. UF/IFAS notes that many biting midge species are under 1 mm and pass through ordinary window screen, and that dedicated no-see-um screen has openings small enough to exclude them.

Get this right or get it wrong

Winter Springs issues its own permits

Properties inside Winter Springs city limits do not go through the Seminole County Building Division. The city runs its own Building Division under its own Community Development Department, and it has its own screen enclosure ordinance — Code Sec. 6-86, which sets a seven-foot rear setback for screen enclosures and rooms and, on lakefront property, a minimum twenty-five feet from the shoreline measured at the existing or established high-water control level.

Neither of those binds a like-for-like rescreen, because a rescreen does not move the frame. They bind a new or enlarged enclosure. If a contractor tells you your rescreen needs a Seminole County permit, they have not worked inside this city.

What this costs elsewhere

No screen company should quote a cage it has not seen, and this one will not. What is useful before that visit is the shape of the market, so here it is with its provenance attached.

Winter Springs Rescreening is a new brand and has no reviews, no star rating and no awards. Rather than borrow someone else’s or write our own, this space stays empty until real Winter Springs customers fill it. If a rescreening site shows you five-star quotes with no surname, no street and no date, that is what you are looking at.

Common questions

Answers, with the working shown

Should I repair a few panels or rescreen the whole cage?

Count the failures. Two or three torn panels on a cage whose mesh is otherwise tight and dark is a repair — there is no sense replacing 34 good panels to fix 3. Once you are past roughly a quarter of the panels, or once the mesh has gone chalky, pale and brittle enough that a fingertip pushes through it, panel-by-panel repair becomes a rolling cost and a full rescreen is cheaper inside two years.

Winter Springs skews hard toward the second case. The appraiser's median enclosure build year in the city is 1997, and 87% of the recorded enclosures went up before 2010. Mesh that old fails everywhere at once, not in one panel.

How long does a pool screen rescreen last in Florida?

Published Florida guidance puts screen mesh service life at 8 to 15 years, depending on the material, how much direct sun the panels take and whether a storm has stretched them. South- and west-facing panels normally fail first; a shaded north wall on the same cage can still be sound when the sunny side has gone.

The frame lasts far longer than the mesh, which is why rescreening is a maintenance job rather than a rebuild — provided the fasteners have not corroded. On the 1980s and 1990s cages that dominate Winter Springs, checking the screws is part of the quote.

Do you do repairs and rescreening?

Both. Single-panel repairs after a branch drop or a dog, full-cage rescreens, lanai and screened-porch rescreens, screen door rebuilds, kickplate replacement, and the frame and fastener work that has to happen first when an old cage will not hold new spline.

What we do not do is build new enclosures. If your cage needs replacing rather than rescreening, we will say so and you will need a structural aluminium contractor and a City of Winter Springs permit.

How much does it cost to rescreen a pool cage in Florida in 2026?

Published 2026 ranges from Florida screen contractors put a full rescreen at roughly $1,500–$3,200 for a typical 20–40 panel pool cage, $800–$1,800 for a small lanai under 20 panels, and $2,800–$4,500 for a large or two-storey mansard cage. Per panel, $35–$75 at ground level with standard fiberglass mesh, most landing $45–$60.

These are researched market estimates - ranges published in 2026 by other Florida screen contractors and cost-guide sites, statewide or Orlando-metro rather than Winter Springs-specific. Winter Springs Rescreening’s own rate starts at $1.76 per square foot, installed — the real floor against the ranges shown.

Are you licensed and insured?

Licence, insurance and entity details are published in the footer of every page and in this site’s structured data, and can be verified independently.

Ask any Winter Springs contractor the same question and check the answer rather than taking it. For work that needs a permit inside city limits, the City of Winter Springs Building Division at 407-327-5963 is the office that will actually see the licence.

Your plat name and a rough panel count are enough to say whether this is a repair, a rescreen, or frame work first. Pick your subdivision and the form fills in the appraiser's median build year for its cages, which is most of the answer already.

Serving
Winter Springs, FL 32708 and Seminole County

Every subdivision in that list carries the median build year of its cages, from the Seminole County Property Appraiser CAMA extract dated 29 August 2026. That number is what decides whether you are looking at a rescreen or at frame work first, and it is printed on the form so you can see it before you send anything.

The cage if you know it, the house if you do not. Choosing your subdivision above fills this with the county appraiser’s median for that plat — 1997 city-wide, but 1988 in Tuscawilla and 2022 in Tuskawilla Crossings. A guess is fine; it only sets the frame era we expect to find.
